Old white goods are the most awkward single items to shift. An American-style fridge-freezer can be 180 cm tall, 90 cm wide and weigh 130 kg empty. A range cooker is dead weight on a narrow worktop cut-out. A top-loader washer holds residual water that leaks onto the carpet the moment you tip it. This page covers single-item collections, replacements (out with the old, in with the new) and proper disposal — all from one call. It is heavier work than a standard man with a van job, which is why we will usually bring a second person for anything American-style or built into cabinetry.

What we move and remove

  • Fridges and fridge-freezers — under-counter, tall freestanding, American-style (Samsung, LG, Hisense, Beko, Bosch), integrated units removed from cabinetry
  • Freezers — chest freezers, upright freezers, garage-rated units
  • Washing machines and tumble dryers — front-loaders, top-loaders, condenser and heat-pump dryers
  • Dishwashers — freestanding and integrated
  • Range cookers and ovens — gas and electric (we don't disconnect gas — see below)
  • American-style fridge-freezers in upstairs flats — yes, including BH4 / BH5 conversions with no lift

We charge a flat £65 for a single-item collection within Bournemouth, Poole or Christchurch — that includes load, transport and disposal at a licensed waste site. American fridge-freezers, range cookers and any second-floor-or-above job are £90 because they need two people. Replacement swaps (deliver new appliance, take old one away on the same trip) are £80 within town.

Disposal — done legally

This is the part most "man and van" ads on Gumtree get wrong. Fridges and freezers contain refrigerant gas and insulation foam that are classified as hazardous waste under WEEE regulations. You can't take them to the tip in the boot of a normal car, and fly-tipping them carries a £400 fixed penalty notice in BCP Council territory — often more. We hold a licensed waste carrier registration with the Environment Agency (number on request), and every appliance we remove goes to either Millhams Household Waste Recycling Centre in Bournemouth or the Nuffield site in Poole, where the refrigerant is properly extracted.

If your old appliance still works and you'd rather it went to a good home, we can drop it at the British Heart Foundation Furniture & Electrical store in Boscombe instead — they collect from us for free and your council tax doesn't pay to dispose of a working fridge.

Gas appliances

We are not Gas Safe registered, so we don't disconnect or reconnect gas hobs, gas cookers or gas tumble dryers. You'll need a Gas Safe engineer to cap the supply before we collect — most local engineers charge around £60–£90 for a cap-off visit. Once it's capped, we'll take the appliance away the same day or the next.

Electric ranges, induction hobs and electric cookers we can disconnect ourselves (no certification required) provided the isolator switch is accessible.

Replacing an appliance

If a delivery driver dropped your new fridge in the hallway and left, we'll come and: unbox it, wheel it into the kitchen on a strap-trolley, level it, take away the packaging and old appliance, and let it stand for the recommended 4 hours before plug-in. This is a service AO, Currys and John Lewis charge extra for and often refuse on upstairs flats — we don't.

Areas covered

White goods collection across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, Boscombe, Southbourne, Winton, Charminster, Parkstone, Westbourne, Broadstone and Kinson. Postcodes BH1 through BH23, including the BH15, BH17 and BH18 Poole industrial estates if you're a small business needing fridge clearance.

Related services

For full kitchen rip-outs (units, worktops, sink, appliances all in one go) book a clearance job instead — it works out cheaper than itemising. For old TVs, microwaves and small kitchen gear we'd add those to a waste removal run. If you're swapping appliances during a house move, fold it into house removals and we'll do the lot in one trip.

Useful reading: the man & van cost guide explains why single items can be cheaper than the minimum fee at corporate removers, and storage options in Bournemouth covers what to do if your new appliance arrives before the old one's gone.

Call 07879 168 829 or WhatsApp with the appliance type, dimensions if you have them, the address (and which floor), and whether you need same-day. Most single items get collected within 24 hours.

"I needed someone to pick up a sofa for me and Robert was brilliant from start to finish. Friendly on Wottsapp . The day before he messaged just to make sure everything was ok. He messaged me the morning of pick up & let me know what time they would be arriving. They were great getting the sofa downstairs and taking it to the flat. Nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be using these guys again. Thanks to you both. Lisa Osborne"
