Room Move in Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch

Need to shift just one room rather than the whole house? Perfect for swapping bedrooms, moving a home office, helping a flatmate move out, or relocating a single room's worth of belongings across town. We handle the lifting, the stairs and the awkward doorways — you point to where it goes.

When you only need one room moved

Not every move is a house move. Sometimes it's a bedroom's worth of furniture going across town to a new flatshare. Sometimes it's a home office that needs relocating because the baby's arriving and the study is becoming a nursery. Sometimes a flatmate is leaving and taking their half of the living room with them.

Full removal firms aren't interested in jobs that size, and the ones that are will quote you a half-day minimum for two hours of work. A room move is priced for what it actually is: from £65, or £40 an hour for larger or more involved jobs. One mover and a van, with a second pair of hands available if there's something genuinely heavy.

The move people forget you can book: within the same house

A surprising share of our room moves never leave the property. Swapping two bedrooms round as children get older. Moving a double bed up from a ground-floor room. Turning the box room into an office and shifting everything that was in it into the loft. Getting a wardrobe down a staircase that it clearly should never have gone up.

People assume this isn't a service you can hire and end up doing it themselves — which is how backs get hurt and how bannisters get gouged. It's usually an hour or two of work for someone who does it daily, has the straps and the blankets, and knows how to get a mattress round a half-landing without folding it.

If that's your job, just say "moving between rooms, same address" when you book. It's often our cheapest booking of the week.

What's included

Every room move comes with:

  • One mover and the van, with a second helper available if you flag heavy items in advance
  • Dismantling and reassembly of beds, bed frames, desks and standard flat-pack wardrobes
  • Blankets and straps to protect furniture and door frames
  • Goods-in-transit insurance up to £10,000
  • Loading and unloading — you don't need to have anything at the kerb

Bring the allen keys if you have them for anything unusual; we carry standard tools and fixings but a specific IKEA cam lock from 2011 occasionally defeats everybody.

What a room move usually looks like

The typical booking is a bedroom: double bed and frame, wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables, a TV, and eight to fifteen boxes or bags. That's about two hours door to door for a local move, and it fits comfortably in one van load.

A home office — desk, chair, drawer unit, bookshelves, a couple of monitors and the inevitable boxes of paperwork — is usually quicker, around ninety minutes, unless the desk is one of the big corner units that has to come apart.

A living room is the one that runs longer, because sofas are the awkward item. If a three-seater has to come down a narrow Victorian staircase or round a tight landing, allow extra time and mention it when booking so we send two people. A sofa that won't fit through a doorway is a genuinely common problem in the older conversions around Westbourne and Boscombe, and it's much better discovered on the phone than on the day.

Students and house-shares

A big share of our room moves are students and young professionals in shared houses, particularly around Winton, Charminster and Wallisdown — the streets where most of Bournemouth's shared housing sits.

It's the classic case for booking a man with a van rather than a removal company: one room's contents, a tight budget, a landlord wanting the keys back by a specific hour, and no car big enough for a mattress. We do a lot of these in June, July and September, and they're usually done inside two hours.

If you're moving between halls, or you need storage over the summer holidays, student removals has pricing built specifically around end-of-term dates and combined loads — worth checking before you book a standard room move.

Room move or something else?

Honestly assessed, so you don't overpay:

  • One room, one van load — a room move is the right fit and the cheapest option
  • A single item (just a sofa, just a bed, just a fridge) — furniture delivery is priced per item and will be cheaper
  • Two or more rooms, or a whole flat — man and van on an hourly basis usually works out better
  • A whole house with multiple bedrooms — house removals gives you a crew and a fixed price
  • Clearing a room out rather than moving it — waste removal or garage clearance is what you want

If you're not sure which bracket you fall into, describe what you've got and we'll tell you which service costs you least. We'd rather book the cheaper job and keep you as a customer.

Same-day and short notice

Room moves are the easiest jobs to fit into a diary at short notice because they're small and quick. Same-day is often possible if you ring in the morning, and next-day is usually straightforward. Weekends book up faster than weekdays, especially at the end of the month when tenancies turn over.

If it's genuinely urgent — a tenancy ending at 5pm today, a relationship ending faster than that — urgent collection runs 24 hours a day and we'll get to you if we possibly can.

Booking

Call or WhatsApp 07879 168 829, or use the quote form. What helps us price it accurately in one go:

  • The two postcodes
  • Which floor at each end, and whether there's a lift
  • Roughly what's in the room — "double bed, wardrobe, drawers, ten boxes" is plenty
  • Anything heavy, oversized, or that you already know is a tight fit

We cover every BH postcode from BH1 through to BH25, plus Wimborne, Ferndown, Verwood and Ringwood.

"I needed someone to pick up a sofa for me and Robert was brilliant from start to finish. Friendly on Wottsapp . The day before he messaged just to make sure everything was ok. He messaged me the morning of pick up & let me know what time they would be arriving. They were great getting the sofa downstairs and taking it to the flat. Nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be using these guys again. Thanks to you both. Lisa Osborne"
