Sofas are the single most-requested removal we get. They're too big for a car, the council won't take them as normal kerbside collection, and BCP Council charges £40 for a "bulky item" collection that you have to book three weeks in advance. We collect from £65, same week, and the sofa goes to a charity store if it's still in good shape — or to a licensed recycling site if it isn't. If you searched for a man with a van to take a sofa away, this is the page — though if it is going to a new home rather than the tip, furniture delivery is the one you want instead.

Pricing — straight numbers

  • Two-seater sofa, ground floor: £65
  • Three-seater sofa, ground floor: £75
  • Corner sofa or four-seater: £85
  • Sofa + matching armchair: £85
  • Sofa-bed (extra weight): £75
  • Upstairs collection (first floor or above, no lift): stairs are charged at £8 a flight
  • Same-day collection (call before 11 AM): priced at our same-day rate — ring and we will tell you the figure before you book

All prices include the lift, the van, the disposal and a sofa cover so we don't drag it across your hallway floor. If you're inside the BH postcode area, the price you see is the price you pay — no minimum-fee surprises.

Where the sofa actually goes

This is the bit most "we'll take it away" services hide. By law, every sofa has to come with a fire-retardant label (the white "BS 5852" or "BS 7177" tag, usually under a cushion). If yours has the label and the upholstery is in decent shape — no big rips, no pet damage, no smoke smell — we drop it at British Heart Foundation Furniture & Electrical, Boscombe or YMCA Bournemouth donation centre. Both will resell it and the proceeds go to local charity work.

If the sofa has lost its label, has serious damage, or the upholstery has been treated with home-applied stain protector, the charities can't take it. In that case it goes to Millhams Household Waste Recycling Centre in Bournemouth, where the steel frame, wood and foam get separated and recycled. Either way, the council charge is on us, not you — that's already in the £45.

What we don't do (and what to call instead)

If you're unsure which page you need, just call — we'll route it to whichever one gives you the lowest price.

Areas we cover

Same-week sofa collection across every BH postcode. The high-volume areas for us are Bournemouth town centre (BH1 and BH2), Winton and Charminster (BH9) where the rental market churns through sofas every September, Boscombe (BH5), Southbourne (BH6), Poole (BH15), Parkstone (BH14), Christchurch (BH23) and Broadstone (BH18).

Outside BH — if you're in Wimborne, Ringwood or Verwood, we'll quote on request.

Stairs, lifts and "will it actually fit"

The most common sofa-removal disaster is the one that won't come back out the way it came in. Common Bournemouth examples: the loft-conversion stairs in a Victorian Winton terrace are too tight for a corner sofa, and the lifts in the older Westbourne mansion blocks won't take a three-seater on its side. If you bought the sofa years ago and the kids have grown up around it, measure the front door, the hallway and any turns *before* we arrive. If the answer is "I don't think it fits", we bring a strap saw and dismantle it on-site for an extra £20 — beats leaving it stuck in the lounge.

"Even after confirming and reminding for my daughters move who is a student there was no show. Robert never showed up nor picked up my call and no reply to any messages. Ridiculously bad experience as we were stuck in a very bad situation of finding another source for the pick up and deliver her stuff . Not a trustworthy deal . I would atleast have a reason for not showing up at all and ignoring me . Be aware and thanks Robert for all the trouble my daughter has to face."
