IKEA Delivery & Assembly in Bournemouth, Poole & Christchurch

The nearest IKEA to Bournemouth is Southampton — about 35 miles each way. IKEA's own delivery quotes for that route routinely come back at £45–£65, plus £40+ per item for assembly, plus a 1–2 week wait. Most weeks I'm in and out of Southampton anyway for other jobs, so I can collect your IKEA order, drop it in your hallway in Bournemouth, and assemble everything the same day for less than IKEA's delivery-only fee. Think of it as a man with a van who also owns an Allen key and knows which way up the cam locks go.

This service is built for three groups: people who don't have a big enough car, people who don't want to spend a Saturday with an Allen key, and landlords furnishing a flat between tenants who need it done before Monday.

How the collection works

Place your IKEA order online and choose Click & Collect at Southampton (West Quay or the Burgess Road store, whichever has stock). You'll get an email with a 7-day collection window. Send me the order number, the collection date, and your delivery address. I'll quote a flat price by return — usually £80 for a small order (one or two boxes, no assembly), £150–£220 for a typical bedroom or living-room set with assembly, £280–£380 for a full studio fit-out.

The van is a long-wheelbase Luton with a 600 kg tail lift, so even bulky Pax wardrobes and Kallax storage walls fit in one load. If your order is bigger than that — which is rare for residential — we'll split it across two trips at no extra mark-up on the second run.

Assembly — what we build, what we don't

We do build: Pax wardrobes, Malm and Hemnes bedframes and dressers, Kallax shelving, Billy bookcases, Bestå TV units, Ektorp and Friheten sofas, kitchen storage carcasses (not full kitchens), desks, dining tables and chairs.

We don't build: Full IKEA kitchens with worktops and plumbing (that needs a kitchen fitter — happy to recommend two in Poole), Pax internal wardrobe doors with the soft-close mechanism on the very largest units (specialist tool needed), or anything that requires drilling into your wall above 5 kg (a flat-pack contractor's liability — get a handyman with public liability cover instead).

Assembly is charged at the same hourly rate as man and van work, £40 per hour per person, billed to the nearest 15 minutes after the first hour. A typical Malm bed and matching dresser takes around 90 minutes for one person; a Pax wardrobe set with sliding doors is 2–3 hours for two people because the doors need a level floor and a tape measure.

Other store collections

Same principle works for anything in driving distance: DFS, Sofology and Furniture Village at the West Quay retail park, Wickes and B&Q for kitchen and bathroom units, John Lewis at the Hedge End or Westquay stores, Habitat through Sainsbury's, Made.com end-of-line returns from their Birmingham warehouse (we can quote — usually a half-day round trip). Packaging take-away

IKEA cardboard piles up fast. Every assembly job includes flattening and taking away every box, foam corner and plastic wrap. Cardboard goes to Millhams recycling in Bournemouth or Nuffield in Poole. Saves you a tip run on Sunday morning.
