Student removals in Bournemouth and beyond

Moving in or out of student halls, a shared house or a private studio? We've helped hundreds of students at Bournemouth University, Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) and the English language schools across town move quickly, cheaply and without parental drama. We know the access rules at the main halls, the parking quirks around Talbot Campus and Lansdowne, and the end-of-June panic that hits every year when tenancies all end on the same Saturday. Most students ring looking for a cheap man with a van rather than a removals firm, and that is exactly what this is — one van, one or two people, charged by the hour rather than by a surveyor's estimate.

Whether it's a single room from Talbot Campus to a Winton house-share, a full studio from Lansdowne back home to London for summer, a multi-stop pickup with three flatmates' stuff, or a storage run to a local lock-up between terms — we've done it all and we know the postcodes inside out.

What's included on a student move

Student moves get the same kit and care as any other job — we don't run a cut-down service just because the budget is tighter:

  • Luton van with tail-lift (plenty of room for the contents of any halls room or shared house — even with the inevitable bin bags of clothes)
  • Strong driver who can help lift — and a second person on request for heavier loads
  • Blankets, straps and a trolley for boxes, beanbags, monitors and the bike that won't fit anywhere else
  • Disassembly and reassembly of standard Ikea-grade bed frames, desks and wardrobes — useful for moving into unfurnished shared houses
  • Full insurance — goods-in-transit and public liability
  • Card, bank transfer or cash payment after the job — no cash up front, no card-machine surcharges

We're set up specifically for the student market, which means we're flexible about parental input over WhatsApp, getting written quotes for parents to approve, and timing the job around an early-morning train home.

Student pricing — built for tight budgets

We keep student removals deliberately affordable because we do a lot of them and we want repeat business when you graduate and start your first proper rented place. Typical prices:

  • Single room, local (under 5 miles): from £65
  • Shared house or studio, local: from £120
  • Full student house (3- to 5-bed shared), local: from £240–£380
  • Long-distance to home (e.g. Bournemouth → London halls): typically £280–£420
  • Storage drop-off between terms: from £70 depending on volume

We can split a single job across multiple pickup addresses for one combined price — e.g. three flatmates being collected from different halls and dropped at a new shared house. That's much cheaper than booking three separate movers and a lot less stressful than coordinating three different van times on the same day.

Term-time and end-of-year peak weeks

There are a handful of weeks every year when the entire BH student market tries to move on the same Saturday. Plan for them:

  • End of June — biggest week of the year. Tenancies typically end on the last Saturday of the month. Book at least 2–3 weeks ahead, ideally 4.
  • Mid-September — fresher's week and the start of the new academic year. New arrivals into halls and house-shares.
  • Christmas week — home for the holidays, often with a bike, suitcase and a few boxes
  • End of January — semester change; some students move between accommodation
  • End of May / early June — finishing dissertations and starting to clear out

Book at least 7–10 days ahead in those peak periods if you possibly can — and let us know if your tenancy end date is fixed (most are), because we'll prioritise jobs with hard deadlines. Mid-week slots (Tue–Thu) fill last, so consider those if you have flexibility on the actual day.

Why a man-and-van service beats hiring a Transit yourself

Every September we see students try to save money by renting a Transit from a hire company and doing it themselves. Sometimes it works. Often it doesn't, because:

  • Hire vans charge for fuel, insurance excess, mileage and damage — a "£50 day rate" often becomes £120+ once the fuel and insurance excess waiver is added on
  • You need to be over 23 with a year's clean licence — many students don't qualify
  • You still have to load, drive, park, unload and reassemble yourself — usually without a tail-lift or trolley
  • Damage during a self-drive move is your problem and your excess
  • If something goes wrong (van issue, traffic, lost keys) the day is yours to sort out

Booking a man and van means the driving, lifting, route and risk all sit with us — and the total cost is often the same as or less than a self-drive once everything is added up.

Bike, electronics and fragile items

Three things students always have and always worry about:

  • Bikes — fine in the van, but we'll either secure them upright with straps or lay them carefully on top of soft items at the end of loading. Tell us in advance if you have multiple bikes.
  • Monitors, desktop PCs, gaming setups, instruments — wrap in a blanket or duvet (or ask us to bring extra bubble) and pack vertically so weight isn't on the screen. We treat them like glass.
  • Mini-fridges and microwaves — fine to move, but a mini-fridge ideally needs to stand for a few hours at the new place before being plugged in.

Areas we cover for student moves

Most student jobs run between Talbot Campus, Lansdowne, Winton, Charminster, Boscombe and Poole. The most common moves we do:

  • Halls → first house-share at the end of first year
  • House-share → house-share at the end of second year
  • House-share → home for summer + back again in September
  • AUB student studios in town centre → larger shared houses out in BH8/BH9

For area-specific pricing and parking notes see BH8 Charminster, BH9 Winton, BH5 Boscombe, BH12 Parkstone and BH15 Poole. For long hauls back home at end-of-year, see our popular routes — Bournemouth → London is our single most-booked student route every June.

Storage between terms — saves a round trip home

If you live too far from Bournemouth to take everything home for summer (or you're going abroad over the break), self-storage is usually cheaper than two long-distance van runs. We work with several local self-storage sites across Bournemouth and Poole with student-friendly monthly contracts. We can:

  • Move you out at end-of-term, straight to storage (single trip)
  • Reclaim the unit in September and deliver back to your new place
  • Recommend the right unit size based on what you're storing (most students only need a 25–35 sq ft unit)

Costs vary, but storing the contents of a single halls room over summer typically runs £40–£70/month plus the two van runs.

Multi-stop pickups and group bookings

We frequently combine 2–4 students' moves into one job. The classic pattern:

  • Three flatmates moving into the same new shared house
  • Each is currently in halls or different addresses across BH
  • We pick up from all three in sequence and deliver to the new place in one go

You split the total cost between you — typically £40–£70 per person for what would otherwise be £100+ each booking individually. Drop us a message with the postcodes and rough item lists for everyone involved and we'll quote the combined job.

How to book a student move

  1. Send a quick item list or photos via WhatsApp (07879 168 829) — boxes, bedding, bike, mini-fridge, that kind of thing.
  2. Get a written quote the same day, often within an hour during term time.
  3. Lock in your date — pay after the job; no cash up front.
  4. Move day — we text on the way and turn up in the agreed window.

"I needed someone to pick up a sofa for me and Robert was brilliant from start to finish. Friendly on Wottsapp . The day before he messaged just to make sure everything was ok. He messaged me the morning of pick up & let me know what time they would be arriving. They were great getting the sofa downstairs and taking it to the flat. Nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely be using these guys again. Thanks to you both. Lisa Osborne"
